This year for Christmas around the world, I chose Norway for my country. Norway has some cool Christmas traditions which are different from other countries traditions. One thing that I find interesting about Christmas in Norway is that they send a Norwegian Fir to Trafalgar square in London. I found writing the recipe for Ribbe challenging because it was long.
During the 4th term of this year we learned about different types of poetry including Haiku, Nonsense, etc. My favourite poem was the Memory poem because when I wrote it I remembered how fun my Ski trip was to Porters Pass. My least favourite poem was the Clerihew because it was basically a limerick except it didn’t have a fifth line. The next poem that I am going to do is the Kennings poem.
This year we did 3 Digital learning objects ( DLOs ) about Circles, Probability, and Angles. My favourite DLO was the one about circles because I wrote one hundred digits of Pi. My least favourite DLO was the one about probability because I don’t like chance. The next thing that I want to learn is two hundred digits of Pi.
I used information from the kiwi kids news website to write my notes and then I used copy.ai paragraph generator ( which was very helpful ) to write the paragraph in red. The paragraph in blue is my writing with no Ai help at all.
Daryl Tan Hong is a speedcuber born in Singapore who has recently added to his list of Guinness world records. This world record is Fastest man to solve a 3x3x3 rubik’s cube under water. He did this feat in 9.29 seconds which is insanely fast and something that is basically a superhuman ability. His ability to remain concentrated while solving the puzzle was amazing. At the starting point of the year Room seven and I started to use Prototec every Monday to help us remind ourselves of our basic facts.
My goal for Prototec was to get 80% accuracy on stage 7 in under five minutes, that soon leveled up into 100% accuracy stage 7 in under 3 minutes. Now my Prototec goal is 100% accuracy stage 8 in under 5 minutes.
The other websites that we use for basic facts are Quick quiz and in it there are questions which we write in our maths books then we check our answers and I normally got 10/10 correct so now I do Quick quiz algebra which is really fun.
Another app that we use to help our learning is number of the day and in it there is a number and there are questions that have something to do with that number i.e how many factors.
The last website that we use is called times tables diploma which in it there are 40 questions and you have to get all of them right and in under 7 minutes to get the diploma.
My favourite part about doing basic facts is the times tables because I like multiplication. I found that the diploma was sometimes harder than the other basic facts websites because I always try to get it done in as little time as possible so that doesn’t always turn out well for me. The next steps for my basic facts learning are doing the stage 8 #’s on the basic facts page on Ruma Whitu.
WALT: explain what rotation, reflection, translation, enlargement and tessellation are.
I enjoyed learning and explaining what a reflection was because I knew what it was. One thing I found difficult was explaining what translation was.
WALT: find a fraction of an amount and adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators. Also adding and subtracting fractions with different denominators. I am also learning to multiply and divide fractions with like denominators and different denominators.
One thing I found difficult was multiplying and dividing fractions but I got the hang of it pretty quickly. One thing I enjoyed was playing the fraction games, they were fun but not to difficult and therefore giving my brain a break from all the hard fractions.
WALT: Identify equivalent fractions and put them in order. Also comparing them and Simplifying the fractions, convert mied numbers to fractions and vice versa.
One thing I enjoyed was playing fickle fractions on the transum games website because it was very hard to guess the biggest/smallest fraction and find the door with the trophy. One thing I found tricky was ordering and comparing the fractions.
This week we read an article called Tohu Hākinakina Wehi o te ao.
It was about a person called Jed Mildon who landed the world’s first ever quadruple backflip on a BMX bike.
His motto is “if your mind can conceive it then your heart can believe it” he says that his motto is the key to his succes.

This article was about how Ponsonby became a cool neighbourhood. This town seems very cool because it has a lot of stuff from Unique shops to festive Christmas lights. If you are visiting Ponsonby then you had best visit near Christmas time and if you do then you definitely have to visit Franklin road because it transforms into a fairy tale with the hundreds of twinkling lights. Ponsonby is also home to street art along with sculptures and paintings, making it like an outdoor art gallery. Diverse and friendly people make it a very welcoming place to visit.
