William Pike Bike Ride

Bike Ride!

“I sure hope nothing gets in your eye Chase,” said Dad with ominous foreshadowing. I was having flashbacks from last year. Buzz, buzz, went the bug in my eye. I couldn’t see out of that eye. I sure hope that doesn’t happen again this year.

Mananui Tramline had puddles galore. Puddles left, Puddles right; and the rain wasn’t helping at all. All of Ruma Kea was having fun on the water slicked trail. The trail was slick, the boardwalk slippery, and the downhills treacherous, at least nothing was in my eye. I was sliding dangerously around corners and slipping across the rocks. All was fun and when we got to the end of the track, everyone was having fun but spirits were shot to the ground when the rain started dumping down. Everyone thought there was no way the rain could get worse but suddenly, WOOSH, the rain comes down quickly in sheets of pain, my hands were numb and I could barely brake and shift gears but as soon as the rain started hurting, there was no more, the sky was blue and a rainbow stretched over the sunny trail. We were all stupendously delighted at the sudden turn of events. Nothing could go wrong now, even when I speedily sped down the side path into the massive puddle with everyone watching. Suddenly, FLICK, SQUISH, mud flew straight into my eye making my eye swell up with redness. I was temporarily blind in my left eye for 2 hours! This was the event that I was dreading and fearful of but at least the mud wasn’t alive like that bug from last year.

Besides the mud, this was an amazing trip which was better than the year before. I wish we did the water race but at least we went up and down the massive hill. Even with all the weather changes and the brutal uphills, I think this is a stupendous bike ride to do and I might have to do this ride with my family.
