William Pike Challenge

The William Pike Challenge

Do you have what it takes to step out of your comfort zone? Well that’s exactly what the William Pike challenge encourages you to do. This challenge was made by William Pike to help you learn new skills indoors and outdoors.

William Pike created the William Pike Challenge after losing his leg in a serious accident. Even though he now has a prosthetic leg he still can do the things he loves. He is stepping out of his comfort zone every day and that is what the William Pike Challenge is all about.

The William Pike Challenge consists of three main aspects: Passion Project, Community Service, and Outdoor Activities.  The Passion Project is all about learning new skills. You can join a sports team, learn an instrument, or even learn to cook.

Community Service focuses on giving back to your community. You can go on a rubbish clean up, mow your neighbours lawns, or walk someone’s dog and even though this may not be fun, you are helping your community more than you may think.

Last but not least Outdoor Activities. These activities are scheduled by your teacher or principal. Some of these planned activities may be something like: rock climbing, a tramp, a bike ride, or maybe even a walk up a mountain.

You have to do 5 outdoor activities and 20 hours of both community service and passion projects and even if this seems like a lot, when you are finished the hours will have seemed to fly by and you will have realised that you have been pushed out of your comfort zone.

Not only does the William Pike Challenge push you out of your comfort zone but it also gives you new experiences that might not have had otherwise.

Without the William Pike Challenge I don’t think I would have ever experienced Rock Climbing. But it isn’t just rock climbing that the William Pike Challenge has introduced me to, it is also Rafting and Skiing which can be very difficult to do otherwise. When I first went skiing I was very nervous about what to do and how to do it. Over the trip I stepped out of my comfort zone and began to try and ski down the slope faster and faster. The next year when we went back, I wasn’t afraid anymore. I even took it a step further and went down the steeper slope many times.

The William Pike Challenge will give you opportunities to learn new skills, meet new people and have fun while doing it. The William Pike Challenge has helped us gain confidence and we are sure that this program will help you step out of your comfort zone.

Extremism Paragraph

Extremism Paragraph

We believe that online security threats should be taken more seriously. We think that Giles Dexter is writing about a very real threat that needs to be mitigated and stopped. The cyber threat that these online security breaches pose is simply unacceptable and needs to be recognised and diminished. To lessen these online security issues we need to strengthen our passwords and raise awareness around the topic. This is a very serious issue and needs to be addressed and treated as soon as possible. The toll that this has on our vulnerable children and elderly is outstanding. We find a topic like this atrocious to have continued on this long and need to find a long term solution.

Teacher Takeaways

Teacher Takeaways

Everyone needs a break, including teachers. Our teacher should take us to Japan for one week. Everyone needs a holiday and Japan would give us an amazing cultural experience beyond the bounds of New Zealand. There would also be learning involved about Japanese culture.

Everyone Needs A Break!

Do you really like teaching and learning for 10 weeks without a break? I believe we should go on a break with our class to Japan. It will be exhilarating and an acceptable break for the children and even the teacher. My cousin went over to Japan during the school holidays and he said that it was an enjoyable and entertaining experience. Imagine having a hard day at school and then your teacher says, do you want to go to Japan? Yes!? Then they hand out notices to get signed by the parents. It would light their heart a blaze to make sure their parents signed it.

An Amazing Experience!

Japan is a very sophisticated country. There are unwritten rules such as: no eating in very public spaces, silence while on public transport, and no blowing your nose in public. All of those things are considered rude and disrespectful. There are also many different cities that we will go to. Sapporo has amazing ski resorts, Nagano has the snow monkeys, and the Fushimi Inari shrine has over 1000 torii gates! All of these places are memorable in the best way possible. I (Chase) loved my visit to Japan and I strongly believe that our class would love this visit just as much.

Learning About Japanese Culture!

Who doesn’t want to learn about Japanese culture! Japanese culture is a very interesting topic. There are many different celebrations and traditions. Setsubun is a day celebrating spring, during this celebration you eat as many beans as you are old. Another popular celebration is Shogatsu, the Japanese new year. You celebrate the New Year by visiting shrines, eating special foods, and visiting family. You can learn so much just by being around the culture, this is another reason why our class should visit Japan.

Including the break, experience and the culture, who wouldn’t want to go to Japan. I strongly believe that our class needs an exhilarating break such as Japan, which would really benefit the students and teachers.

Persuasive writing 2023

This year we have been doing persuasive writing about all sorts of subjects. One thing I have enjoyed is writing about children bringing their phones to school. I chose this topic because if you read it you will see that I am 100% against phones being brought to school. WALT: persuade the reader to believe what the writer believes.

Here is a link to all of my persuasive writing over the year:

Power challenge

WALT: Write to persuade people that renewable power  can have negative consequences

My class did a wind turbine challenge where they made wind turbines and learned about renewable power. They learned about how to make wind turbines and they designed their own ones.

Do you think power in New Zealand should be renewable? I strongly believe that it wouldn’t be good for NZ here’s why.

If all power in New Zealand is renewable, then people like coal miners would lose their jobs. Oil rigs would become obsolete and do nothing but pollute the ocean therefore killing fish and other sea life. By killing those sea life then you are taking away people’s jobs because if you fish for a living then all the fish you catch will have pollution in them or there just won’t be any fish at all.

Another reason why renewable energy is bad is because you are wasting natural resources such as coal, gas, and oil. If we are wasting oil then it is going to be pollution. Not using coal is bad because some people use coal to heat their homes and if no coal is being mined then they will be cold when they are at their house.

You are going to need lots of money to buy land for wind turbines. If you are going to use solar panels, well that also costs a lot of money and if there are clouds where you live then it wouldn’t be a good purchase. Solar panels also require time to install them, maintenance, and space. If you use fresh water then that limits the amount of drinking water in New Zealand.

That is why without a doubt that I don’t think renewable energy would be a good thing for NZ.
